VBIA actively engages in local issues to support responsible growth, housing opportunity, and a strong building industry across Volusia County.
Works with local officials to clarify that permit and licensing fees must be used for Florida Building Code enforcement. Advocates for transparency and responsible use of these funds, including community relief where appropriate.
Engages in conversations with local leaders on proposed impact fee changes and how they affect housing affordability, project feasibility, and long-term growth.
Helps educate members and the public on drainage systems, swales, and maintenance practices that impact both builders and homeowners—especially ahead of the rainy season.
Maintains open communication with city and county officials to ensure the building industry’s perspective is represented in local decision-making and policy discussions.
Through resources like Construction 101, VBIA provides clear, accessible information to help the public better understand the building process and the policies that affect it.

State Advocacy – FHBAThrough our partnership with the Florida Home Builders Association, VBIA members are represented in Tallahassee on key issues impacting the building industry across Florida, including regulations, permitting, and housing policy. VBIA members also have the opportunity to participate in state legislative conferences, meeting directly with elected officials and sharing industry perspectives on current issues. | National Advocacy – NAHBAs members of the National Association of Home Builders, VBIA is connected to a national network advocating in Washington, D.C. on issues such as housing affordability, workforce development, and federal regulations. Members can take part in national legislative conferences, engaging directly with members of Congress and helping bring the voice of our industry to the national stage. |
